Lufthansa Visual Flight Rules 360 Degree Training
With 360 degree and VR, Lufthansa Aviation Training improved flight students' performance by 15% (evaluated at the Technical University of Berlin).
Success Story
Lufthansa Aviation Training achieved a 15% increase in performance among student pilots
About
Challenges
During Visual Flight Rules Training, physical aircraft and simulators are not available at all times
Experience is the most important factor in flight training. However, real airplanes and flight simulators are not available at all times, in all places and in any quantity.
The first cross-country flights according to the so-called “Visual Flight Rules” (VFR) - where you fly according to waypoints instead of instruments - are therefore particularly challenging for student pilots.
Solution
In collaboration with Lufthansa Aviation Training, we developed the first mobile VR training for the “VFR” basic training, which is conducted in Phoenix, Arizona.
First Flying Lesson
Using VR glasses, prospective pilots complete a full cross-country flight before their first flying lesson. They can identify waypoints by looking at them and receive automatic feedback.
Numerous hazardous situations are also simulated.
Results
15% performance increase
Instant feedback
Making learning success measurable
User can repeat at any time
The training was scientifically monitored and evaluated at the Department of Psychology at the University of Berlin and showed that training led to a measurable increase in performance of 15%.
Cost Savings
Using the app, training can be carried out anywhere and as often as required at low cost.
"A project that inspires. And the students benefit from this fantastic, highly innovative training element."
