Learning With Augmented Reality

For a broader reality for your trainees

Augmented Reality solutions allow learners to expand their reality through interactive images, texts, videos and digital 3D models on their smartphones. More precisely, AR is “superimposed” on the tangible world and thus enhances the user's real-life experience. According to a survey by the professional association ISACA , Augmented Reality users in five countries ranked AR as one of the three most important technologies for training and development.

AR Training Sessions Benefits

In the workplace, Augmented Reality has the potential to improve the learning and knowledge of both trainees and experienced employees, reduce training costs and increase the learning curve as the high level of interactivity leads to better effectiveness of employee training initiatives and other external stakeholders.

Tailored learning experiences

Using Augmented Reality, employees can call up theoretical content learned with VR in practical application and access it seamlessly and selectively. This transition from the basics in VR to process optimization through AR allows employees to work with the same content.

This makes it all the more important that learning software allows for the integration of both VR and AR. We would be happy to tell you how we or our partners can support you.

Higher motivation due to a sense of unity

Employees can learn together in one place and interact directly with their colleagues allowing to encourage a sense of unity and motivation.

Lower training costs

With AR, trainers save on expensive 3D models and complex content environments if the real object is available and only needs to be expanded with instructions. In addition, once implemented, software and hardware can be reused at any time.

Repeatable and available at any time

AR training opportunities have greater potential; even for experienced employees. After all, training is available on demand, so trainees can understand at their own pace how their work processes work and respond flexibly to challenges.

AR images targeting

Employees can scan existing 2D images and superimpose 2D videos, texts, images or 3D objects over them.AR image targeting can support employees at work, enhance introductory training or optimize existing e-learning courses.

Floor-level object partitioning with AR

Employees can place a 3D model of any object on a surface and then rotate or disassemble it to identify the components, retrieve data or receive step-by-step instructions on how to repair or install the object.

Training with AR learning scenarios

Users place a 3D model of any object on a surface and can interact with the object and at the same time with actors or objects through networked learning processes.

Possible Augmented Reality Cons

Augmented Reality distorts the real world and at the same time depends on the generation and distribution of data in the form of computer-generated perceptual data and user-generated feedback information.

Narrower field of vision

Due to the smaller field of vision, users control the Augmented Reality through their line of sight, just like in real life. Ideally, users should carry out AR training in their glasses and not in their cell phone so that they can perform the activities hands-free.

More expensive AR glasses

In contrast to VR glasses, glasses for Augmented Reality are much more expensive and currently cost around €3,500 for the Hololens.

Technically more complex

AR glasses are technically more complex and the technology is not yet as mature as their VR glasses counterparts.

Top Applications For AR Training

Phone-based AR software has been recognizing environments for many years and providing additional information about what is seen, e.g. live translations of texts or pop-up reviews of restaurants. A lot has happened here in recent years and there are now almost no training courses that cannot be designed for AR.

Important AR Features

The two main components of AR training are the software and storage in the cloud. Complex AR algorithms as well as metadata, 3D models and additional teaching material are stored in the backend to take up less storage space on a device. If required, they can be quickly loaded and used by the client app.

Virtual Companion

An easily configurable virtual companion guides participants through the training spatially, procedurally and narratively.

Multi-User Training

Allow several people to participate in the same training course via the Internet or together in a real classroom with their Augmented Reality glasses.

Asset & Training Export

Can be used and reused across multiple cloud instances.

LMS Integration

Every AR training program should be able to be integrated into a learning management system such as Workday, Cornerstone, Docebo or SAP SuccessFactors.

Input Data Processing

Software receives and analyzes data from the real world via the camera lens of the AR glasses, smartphone and sensors such as GPS.

Metadata, 3D Models and Media

Server query and on-demand loading of relevant comments and notes, 3D models and voiceover guides or instructional videos.

Live Transmission

Screencasts allow you to follow a learning scenario via notebook.

XYZ Level Detection

Automatic field of view scanner in the camera lens and evaluation as an image on an XYZ coordinate plane to overlay AR content correctly.

AR Training In Just A Few Steps

Several types of software algorithms are required to implement Augmented Reality:

AR Training Costs

Many factors play a decisive role in the final price of an AR project, for example: Are only a few AR functions needed for a project or is a customized solution with complex functions required? Choosing the right AR software package for your project depends on the platform and features of your app.

Create Content Yourself

Software solutions such as 3spin Learning offer the use of AR training at low annual platform fees in the lower four-digit range. Learning content can be created in-house, keeping the additional costs of creation low.

AR Training Key Devices

In contrast to the virtual environment, Augmented Reality is not limited to a portable device, but is also used on phones, projectors and PCs in addition to AR glasses or AR headsets.

In order for Augmented Reality to offer users an immersive experience, they need the following components of AR:

AR Software

For access to AR training.

Sensors

In order to coordinate the real and digital worlds, AR systems need to process data about their environment.

Lenses

An image platform shows the contents.

Smartphone and tablet

The first mobile devices for AR were later followed by tablets.

Smart glasses and AR headsets

Apple's Vision Pro, HoloLens, Meta2 and Magic Leap, for example, have become the focus of the increasingly fast-paced development scene due to their complex technologies and more extensive sensors.

Frequently Asked Questions On AR Training

How can I scale AR training?

Not only the content creation, but also the management, operational and distribution aspects of your immersion strategy must be taken into account. An authoring tool supports you in making any necessary adjustments and employees can download all training courses at the click of a mouse via cloud distribution.

Can I try 3spin Learning for free?

Yes, we will present 3spin Learning to you free of charge as part of a personal demo appointment and you can also take part in a training session yourself if you are interested.

Is my data safe with 3spin Learning?

Protecting your data and your trust are very important to us. We have therefore implemented technical and organizational measures to ensure the security of processing, which we are continuously developing. The data hosting of 3spin Learning is based on Microsoft Azure.

How many of my employees can learn with 3spin Learning?

Our learning platform is not limited to a certain number of learners.

What are AR markers?

Augmented Reality markers are visual reference points that are used by augmented reality systems to precisely position virtual content in the real world. They serve as anchor points where digital elements such as 3D models, texts or animations can be displayed via an AR-enabled device (e.g. smartphone, tablet or smart glasses).

What is markerless AR?

Markerless AR is a form of Augmented Reality that does not require specific visual markers such as QR codes or images to place virtual content in the real world. Instead, markerless AR uses the environment itself – e.g. floors, walls or other physical surfaces – as anchor points for digital objects.

The technology for markerless AR is called SLAM, Simultaneous Localization And Mapping, and is usually implemented with ready-to-use software. SLAM-based AR solutions analyze the environment and capture visual data in the form of point clouds without the need for markers.
